Fourth place in the 4 Hours of Silverstone brought the AT Racing Team a first points haul in its first European Le Mans Series season. Alexander Sr, Alexander Jr and Pierre Kaffer shared the driving in the Ferrari 458 GTE to claim 12 hard-fought points.
The first free practice was used to seek the ideal set-up for their beast and its 2014-specification Michelin tyres for the specific challenges presented by the English track.
After qualifying eighth, Alexander Sr started the race and quickly found his pace but he had to cope with the traffic and with the unfamiliar tyres. After about 50 minutes he handed over to Alexander Jr and he succeeded to move back into top 7 before handing over to Pierre at the end of his stint. Kaffer completed 30 laps at remarkable pace and moved up into top three.
With less than an hour’s racing remaining, a crash involving two LM P2 cars brought out the Saferty Car. AT Racing was the big profiteer of the intervention and finished the race in fourth place.
AT Racing’s next outing is in Italy, at Imola, for round two of the European Le Mans Series. Pierre Kaffer was confirmed as third driver for the next four rounds of the championship.
