AT Racing continued their strong start to the 2014 season with another top 5 finish. Driving the team’s Ferrari 458 GTE at 4 Hours of Imola, the second round of the 2014 European Le Mans Series Alexander Sr and Jr and Pierre Kaffer had a clean race with a perfect pre-planned strategy. The team’s pit stops were very fast and faultless. Only a safety car intervention messed up a podium finish.
All drivers were familiar with the wonderful track in Italy and quickly found a competitive pace. Pierre qualified the car on P6 giving the team a very good position to attack in the race.
Alexander Jr drove the opening stint and quickly climbed through the field. Alexander Sr took over at P3 and proved that he is one of the fastest gentlemen drivers in the field. After another clean pit stop Jr started the final catch up. When the #56 Ferrari was only 30 seconds behind in fourth place the safety car went on track due to debris on track. An unlucky position on Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari meant a one lap loss for the AT Racing team and that’s put paid to team’s dreams of a podium finish.
Pierre finished the race making up some places to bring the car home fourth.
The AT Racing Team definitely has the right package for a podium finish in the European Le Mans Series. The fourth place was very important in the championship race where AT Racing Team is only 6 points behind P2 .
AT Racing’s next event is the home race in Austria, Red Bull Ring on Sunday 20 July.
